3D Printer Settings for Anime Figures and Minis (Resin & FDM)
Anime sculpts punish sloppy settings more than most minis: spiky hair, flowing coats and thin swords amplify every layer line. These are the profiles we print our own One Piece catalog with.
Resin first for figures
For anything under 100 mm, resin is the anime machine. Our baseline: 0.05 mm layers, 1.8-2.5 s exposure (calibrate per resin), models tilted 20-30°, light supports with 0.3 mm tips on hair spikes and chins. Faces print last-facing-up when you tilt backward — layer lines land on the back of the head, where nobody looks. A start-to-finish beginner walkthrough:
FDM for larger figures
From 120 mm up, FDM becomes practical and cheap: 0.12 mm layers, 0.2 mm nozzle if you have one, outer walls at 40 mm/s, tree supports. Big smooth anime surfaces (coats, hats) actually flatter FDM — sand at 400 grit and prime, and a 150 mm Crocodile reads like a garage kit.
Where anime sculpts fail
- Hair spikes — each spike is an island mid-print: one light support per tip.
- Swords and staffs — print vertical or swap in brass rod; a katana at 32 mm is sub-millimeter. Zoro with three of them is the stress test.
- Trailing coats — shallow overhangs that want a row of light contacts, like Smoker's jacket.
Good first prints
Round, compact sculpts before spiky ones: Chopper and Lapahn are nearly foolproof; graduate to the Straw Hat crew once your exposure is dialed. Every file we sell is watertight and pre-oriented, so the slicer work starts from a clean base.
